well and helping new players takes time away and i sometimes miss the wraith because i didnt ping because im so focused on teaching the new players techniques, which they listen to and do but it takes away from me doing my part, putting some quick instructions will help even a little bit for players.
I got lucky with a group who were having a LAN party when i joined, none of them new what they where doing but i was able to tell them basics that kept them interested and i sometimes see some of them in CC games. *EXCELLENT* but for other parties or when CC shows up on the main page of the arcade sometimes there isnt an advanced player to help out in a lobby of 12 and if no one figures out at all the inner workings or even knowing that you CAN launch a miner and that they are inside a BC, not just a BC looking map. it is very weird to look at for the first time and understand the purpose even compared to the more...out-there...games

Tempest wrote:I agree very very much. But you guys need to know that isnt a matter of portrayal of information thats gonna fix this. the only players you have problems teaching are the unintelligent which have a confusing habit of trying strategy games, the two just dont blend. This information will save us time teaching those who are bright enough to understand what they have read, but there will still be the idiots causing problems on deck and so on. Not trying to be rude that's just the honest truth.
Also, it is impossible to play against veteran players and teach people how to play this game at the same time. Like six games ago I distinctly remember a newbie asking "how do I refine" in the middle of an early BC to BC skirmish. They were GOOD newbies, they listened, but, yeah, I'm ... gonna keep shooting the enemy BC, you'll have to figure it out on your own sorry :\ btw you should probably get on nav but I can't tell you how to get there (and refining is best shown how to do by example)
And there seems to be a neverending stream of newbies, which on one hand is a good testament to the map's quality, but on the other hand means I rarely get to play without having hands tied behind my back... or if I'm on a team with vets it usually means the other team is all newbies anyway. So the result is a lot of games I play end up either as "okay please stop ramming each other, dont shoot asteroids, omg theyre coming get to battlestations askfskfsfksgasppleasestopmissingfffffffffff" or "hey guys I know lets kill their BC with chompers"

You can blame the Chomper ramming thing on our fellow CCA members and cala. idk if you were in that game but we rushed them with chompers to be funny and a lot of new players took that too realistically and now they think its the ultimate strategy

I just wanted to say, I'm currently COMPLETELY reworking the new player introduction.
(Tune in to my
stream to watch me work on it)
I am making the introduction text appear in a small window on the screen that is VERY obvious. Instead of having the text appear one after eachother, you now have to press next to get to the next part. When you do, the previous hint is saved to the right as a tip, so you can read it again at anytime. I also create pings on the map for those players so they know where to go.
In addition to this, I'm doing a lot of the stuff you mentioned here. I am going to add more instructions when they're out in space
