So, today I got some news for you, but I also want to start a little discussion so I'm posting it here.

First of all, please welcome scrypso.

Scrypso is a very talented RL friend of mine who's agreed to help me with the forums as an administrator. One of the first things he helped me with is already done. You might've noticed it already. There's a new field below your avatar called "Wiki edits". I'll get into that more later on in this post. Anyway, it required some nice php-scripting and research to bridge it between the wiki and forum databases but it seems to work fine now. Scrypso did a great job with it and it seems to work properly.

Now, wiki edits. Basically, I want more activity on the wiki and to encourage this, I want to give out rewards for people who are active on the wiki. To make it easier for me to see who's been active, we added the wiki edits. Wiki edits are very simple. It's just a number representing the number of edits you've done. If you've done edits in the past, they should have been added already. The edit count is updated every 10 minutes.

What I'm planning on doing is to have a thread with a list of tiers(10 edits, 50 edits, 100 edits) or something like that and then people can post in the thread to claim their reward. When they do, I'll update a post with the name of the person who claimed it and the date and then give him the reward. Rewards can be stuff like reputation bonuses and special skins.

Spamming the forum too much or doing too many edits just to get the rewards might lead to punishment, but don't worry it's only for people who are obviously trying to do as little work as possible just to get rewards. However, writing bigger articles or doing other nice stuff(like providing a nice template like the one DumbMarine made for the Ships) can reward extra edit points. These wont show up in the wiki edits but I'll write them down in the thread and you can add them to your wiki edits to get your total score.

What I'd like to know is if you people think this is a good idea? I need ideas for what reputation levels would be good and what rewards you'd like. Any special model you want or something else you've always dreamed of?

Yeah, that's what I had in mind.

Reputation is something that indicates experience, and implies that your opinion should hold a certain weight. The models are a nice touch for it but are mostly overlooked due to the heavy usage of consoles/smalls hips in the game. So, another thought that comes to mind...

100 - (L. Com.) Lieutenant Commander
250 - (Cap.) Captain
500 - (Cmdor.) Commodore

Alternately, I think it would be incredibly useful to be able to utilize a prefix command. I.E. In game, you could prefix yourself with "Captain" or "Miner" or "Deck Hand" or "Pilot." It would massively help organize roles, and for people who are unfamiliar with each other and/or forgetful it would help as a reminder when someone makes a call.

Titles seems like a nice thing - maybe it's a good idea to have some kind of reward that is only accessible by community-helping (wikiedits, forum posts) and not by rep.

Caladbolg also suggested clan rewards that you can claim when your clan reaches a certain amount of total edits.

Isn't that somewhat unjust due to diffrent amounts of members. And it seems that would be difficult to administrate: you'd have to manually update the map when a new level is reached. But I'm generally positive to clan-based rewards and promotions

Not only that but you'd likely have to restrict it to the forums since clans are often shifting in terms of members.

Perhaps personal rewards for wikipedia edits may better serve? It seems simpler and easier to administrate.

Clan rewards could force entire clans to be active, while personal rewards will only reach some individuals
