making science console purchasable

Making it purchasable will help in terms of balance Cost would be 75Y 75B

heres why, those power transfer upgrades are easy to get and rush very quickly and early on in the game. Nanite is especially powerful because pros are able to get it so quickly and attack before the enemy can get decent upgrades to counter it, wraiths and corvettes can soak damage from BC single and indirect Tri-shots and other wraiths and corvettes all day long because the damage doesnt hurt a skilled player enough because the player is able to dodge enough and counter and sometimes kill even though the other players are skilled many agree that more upgrades and power makes a real difference.

Also, the science console is mostly late game stuff, yamato cannon, most dont get it until very later on and science console could make yamato more difficult to rush with

iron curtain, i think this should come with the science console and not purchasable, its usefull but isnt needed until later on because BCs cant do that much damage yet.

Core Purge...needs green, later game thing.
This is mostly to fix fast rushes that sometimes break a game and allows for more choices later

I'm not 100% sure I agree on this, though I do largely. The power transfers really make or break combat a lot of the time, though frankly I believe Ionic Transfer is more the issue. Nanites is nice and all, but it's only 2% health per second now. For a wraith, assuming you missed out on two potential hull upgrades, that's only 12HP/sec when you're firing off wraith lasers that deal 15-30 damage with each shot -- and roughly 3 hits a second if all connect.

I feel like the most basic energy transfer is already a very useful ability, and that it doesn't need any tweaking. It's low energy transfer, but an attentive captain can easily use it to help his team out immensely in a pinch. It's something very simple that enforces heavier macro. And I really appreciate that.

Wouldn't it be far simpler to just increase the cost of the Power Transfer Upgrades? Making you purchase the Science Console seems a bit roundabout and unnecessary is all. The none upgraded power transfer feels like a big contribution to game play.

Not sure how fast rushes of power transfer breaks the game. Both ionic and nanite are easy to soft counter with teamwork. What strategies have you tried to combat these early techs? Keep in mind a transfer upgrade costs 25 kerm, which could have been 5 core upgrades instead. Core upgrade rushes are also brutal if you don't counter them.

of all the consoles (besides the mass replicator) i could see the science console as the most likely to be purchasable because most/all abilities are late game and this can just make things more interesting like, *do we really need the science console?*

I'm not getting it, to be honest. Yeah, it's probably the one you could most easily turn into a purchasable console. Why do we have to?

Yes, in my opinion the power transfers do a lot, but Marine is right to a good degree; teamwork can help deal with the issue of Power Transfers if you really do try. Even before the nanite nerf, I saw nanite'd wraiths lose to un-nanite'd wraiths before because of proper backup. I even recorded it on video. I still do think a Power Transfer can really turn the tide of the game, especially an Ionic'd Wraith, but it is a 25 kermiculite upgrade. It's not exactly cheap.

I just don't get the benefits. You aren't really making an opportunity cost -- if you're arguing that this is something that should be gotten end game, 75y 75b is not that much by then - but it still removes it from the early game, which is a huge minus to that plan. If you're arguing it's for the power transfers, just change the cost of the power transfers - you shouldn't need to remove the entire console for the early game in order to put that into effect, especially since power transfers are primarily an early game tool.

You ask, do we really need the science console? No, we don't necessarily. But having it contributes a good chunk to the early metagame, enough that I honestly think twice about any suggestion to cull it from the normal list.

I agree with WhyteDragon.

One other thing that speaks against making the science console purchasable is that I kind of dislike the concept of purchasable consoles. They existed in the original WC3 game and I started out with basically copying most of the stats and upgrades and stuff directly from WC3.

However, I only got like two purchasable consoles in before I stopped(there are some nice abilities on those other consoles that I might add to existing consoles) and since I moved tractor beam to navigation, only the Mass replicator remains. I am kind of considering changing it in some way and making it a default console as well, completely removing the concept of purchasable consoles.

(By the way, I consider this a suggestion so I moved it to the suggestion forum)

that and nerf lazer bursts or just get rid of tri and penta and have that console focus on missiles and have advanced console focus on real weps like kinetics or an idea of laser beam (for the millionth and one time, refer to Star Trek) which will be more anti shield then hull based.
