thats because the speed of all ships has generally increased, so wraiths have less time to kill another ship before it docks, which is worse in later stages because of ship speed upgrades, although damage and hull do reasonably scale

Conversely, there are now typically more small ships available for use and more AIs to pick up the slack so that more small ships can be used. Hence more damage.
