Navigation Console

The navigation console is a powerful station which controls the direction and throttle of the Battle cruiser on top of several fulfilling several other minor roles. Not only does the station control the ship's velocity, but it also acts as an early game tool for detection through the use of radar ping. Upgrades will also allow the console to gain access to a multitude of abilities, including engine boost, broadside lasers, tractor beam, inertial nullifier field, and the renowned Yamato cannon. Navigation is very difficult and requires a lot of knowledge to execute effectively, it is common to let one of your more experienced players handle it.

Early Game Navigation
During the early game phase, the navigation console will primarily be used for radar pings in order to detect the positions of various small ships, such as miners or a potentially deadly wraith. Normally a battle cruiser will not need to move during the early phases unless the team decides to chomp, is rushing the opposing team, or is responding to an incoming rush.

Navigation in Combat
Navigation requires a large degree of communication in the midst of a fight because of the amount of utility that revolves around the facing angle of the battle cruiser. Not only does pointing your battle cruiser in a particular direction dictate fight or flight, but it also aims your broadside lasers, yamato cannon, missiles, and even the direction in which small ships will launch. Often times the captain will lead from navigation as the direction of the fight will often lie in the hands of the helm.

Advanced Navigation Tactics
Engine boost is best used to either chase the enemy battle cruiser, or to retreat from it. Engine boosts should never be used for any other reason in combat except those. Each use costs 3000 energy, therefore if your not doing something useful with the boost, you should not have used it in the first place.

Broadside lasers are aimed from the port and starboard sides of your BC and are a very strong means of DPS in a combat situation. Like any offensive laser, you should not shoot it unless it will land (BE ENERGY EFFICIENT) Note however that you can fire both A and D broadsides at the same time if you are surrounded by a bc and his allied destroyer, Open fire on both kill the destroyer as fast as you can (Or retreat with a boost)

Missle attacks are a coordinated effort between weapons and navigation. While your aiming your yamato cannon he should be aiming his missles. Its weapons job to shoot all 6 missles quickly, its your job to count each missle fired and turn as soon as your missles and yamato have fired. Immediately when in range open fire with broadsides (Keep an eye on your energy and your weapons cap, if either become extremely low it is your call to engine boost and retreat (Tell power to give you more power to engines to retreat if he has not already)) If your missles and yamato are reloaded, repeat this same process while keeping an eye on the flow of battle. If the fight is not in your favor consider retreat!

MINING 101

People who are new to Cruiser Command are usually asked to go mine asteroids.

To get to your miner, walk either to the left or to the right and hop on the big orange
circle. The circle is an elevator that takes you to the Hangar deck.

Once you've arrived you'll notice six small blue circles next to six small light blue
circles. Walk onto one of the light blue circles. It does not matter which one.

The select small ship screen will pop up and allow you to choose which ship you want
to take for a spin. Select the miner and launch.

Once in space, you need to find some asteroids. Accelerate your ship by using the W key
and Decelerate your ship by using the S key. Usually there are asteroids right next to
the Battle Cruiser (BC), but sometimes you must go look for them.

After you find a field of asteroids use the Cut Engines skill (hotkey X) to stop the miner.
Miners cannot mine while moving.

If the upgrades guy on the BC has upgraded your miner with Scanner Sweep use it (hotkey C).
Scanner Sweep shows you the color of the asteroids around your miner.

Now you'll use the skill Mine Asteroid (hotkey E) to start mining.

You've been mining and you have around 50 ore in the hold (you'll notice the inventory in
the bottom right of your screen just above the skill panel) you'll want to send the ore
back to the BC. Use your Return Minerals skill (hotkey R) to send the ore back home. Be
careful when sending the ore home. It's launched in a fast moving pod that can be shot
down and if it passes an enemy player he'll know the general direction you're in.

Now you're mining, but there are still a few more things to learn.

If you look at your skill panel there's a skill called Accelerate Mining Beam (hotkey Q).
This ability will triple your mining speed temporarily.

The next skill on your skill panel is Turbo Jump (hotkey T). This ability is a very important
for survivability. Activating this ability will quickly accelerate you forward in the direction
you're facing. It takes a second after you activate it to charge up, which gives you time to pick
a direction to go. Don't point your ship at asteroids, and try to go where a friendly combat ship
is.

If the enemy ship is at low health you can point at them, if you have good aim and kill them
by ramming. The last thing to think about when it comes to Turbo Jump is that you should always
have 250 power in your core so you can use it. The skill will not help you if you don't have the
power. I usually only start using Accelerate Mining Beam after my power reaches 400. The reason
for that is Accelerate Mining Beam drains 150 power from your core.

Okay, you've been mining for awhile, bashing into asteroids and being bashed by asteroids, and
maybe taken some shots from the enemy. Your hull is damaged and you need repairs. To repair your
ship dock with your BC and launch again. Your hull will be fully repaired, but your power core
will be almost empty. Docking always drains your power core.

The last thing new people should know is the flying asteroids. The flying asteroids contain the
only source of Kermiculite (green) ore in the beginning of the game. Try to mine them as they fly
by. Later a field of green will spawn, but that field is generally contested (death trap).

See the small ships - Miner section for more information on Mining and tactics used in operating them.

----
REFINING 101

Refining is another job that usually gets tossed to the new guy. That does not make the job
unimportant, but it's a boring job. (But if you can, have a drone do it, more on drones later)Note: This is not a "job" it does not require constant attention. Refining what's stockpiled up every few minutes is more than adequate unless resources are needed immediately.

The ore the miners send back ends up at the bottom of the Hanger deck, and it's easy to see.
The ore shows up as colored cylinders either yellow, blue, red, or green.

To grab the ore you can use your skill Drop/Pick up Items (hotkey Q). Use it when you're
standing right on top of the ore, and your avatar will pick up all the ore he can carry.

Now you need to run the length of the Hangar deck (I know it's a long way. Take it up
with the man who designed the ship. Your Sprint skill (hotkey T) can help with this.) to the refinery.

There will be a blue outlined box with red letters that say "Drop here to refine".

Run into the box and press Q. All the ore in your inventory should drop inside the box.

Run back down to the bottom of the Hanger deck and repeat in an endless cycle
(Unless Command takes pity on you and buys a drone for the job).

----
WEAPONS

The Weapons console is fairly straight forward. You get on it, it shows you an external view of the ship and access to the Cruiser's weapons. The primary weapon fires via hotkey or right click(can fire in any direction), missiles fire straight out the front when you click on a loaded missile. By default there is only the single burst laser and the missile bays. It's damage can be upgraded and triple and penta- burst can be unlocked. The triple and penta- bursts do fire 3x and 5x more lasers respectively but also have higher energy costs. The energy is removed from the weapons capacitor which receives energy allocated from the core(this will be discussed later).

In addition, you can also research kinetics and switch the weapons over to that. Kinetics does better damage against hull and less against shields. They also have divergent upgrade paths, just be mindful of that for now.

----
TEAMWORK

This is a strategy map but even more important is the fact that this map requires massive amounts of teamwork and communication. Before any purchase is made it should be cleared by your commanding officer, whoever is in charge of upgrades is generally the one in charge of everything. He will tell you what minerals he needs and does not, he will warn you of incoming enemies. He will call you onto the BC for combat, or tell you to stay in space while he handles it with other players. This game requires that you are team player, following instruction is important not because the leader is on a high horse, but rather because if you want to win all team members need to be working towards the same objectives, working together towards the mutual goal being victory. As a miner you should communicate what minerals you have found, communicate incoming enemy ships and their location, communicate any useful information you can think of to inform other players of how to react for the best end result. Dont be afraid to use that keyboard and ask plenty of questions; most players will be happy to help you learn.

by. Later a field of green will spawn, but that field is generally contested (death trap).

See the small ships - Miner section for more information on Mining and tactics used in operating them.

~ [EMP MINE: INFORMATION REQUIRED]

~ The distress beacon is basically an item left behind by the minelayer which emits a constant signal. It will be recorded by pingers on the battlecruiser and can cause distractions or mislead enemies. It can be constructed with the battlecruisers construction console and appears in loads of five beacons.

~ The minelayer is the only ship that can repair a ship's hull (whether small ship or battlecruiser). The nanite-based repairing materials are randomly released from the front of the ship, in a narrow cone.
* Place mines strategically, for example in an asteroid field or as somebody is following you. Beware as mines may cause lag if in excess.

* Nebulas are not visible to all players, but placing a mine inside of one is a clever way to hide them

* Do not stack mines, 1 mine goes in pursuit 1 at a time, multiple will have no effect on 1 ship.

* Your heal spray and shield spray can be used at the same time if you wish to deplete your energy quickly and switch ships.

* A clever mine layer can follow a destroyer to harass the enemy BC, the shield and hull heals are very effective.

The corvette is a defensive small ship. Its primary function is to defend miners and deter any offensive attack, however it may be used offensively (usually accompanied by a wraith). It is quite stout and relatively fast, with a decent turning speed. It excels at soaking up damage and giving out good firepower, especially at close range.

Abilities
~ The corvette comes equipped with a photon barrage. This weapons fires out five, averagely fast bullets that spread out in a ~45 degrees angle. Every single bullet deals a moderate damage, but all five of them deal a high amount of damage. They're relatively cheap to cast, energy-wise, but spamming photon barrages can quickly drain energy.

~ One of the main functions of the corvette is to distract and soak up damage. For this, it is equipped with a reflective shield. When activated, any projectile (except for missiles and Yamato) hitting the shield will be deflected and its damage therefore negated. Deflected projectiles may hit other ships or objects. This does not negate damage due to ramming, however.

Tips and hints
When fighting a wraith, use your shield to deflect any series of incoming fire you cannot dodge, whenever your shield is active you should be trying to close the gap. While your shield is up you cannot be shut down by the enemy EMP.

Ionic transfer makes the corvette a very dangerous ship

Request thruster upgrades whenever using a corvette to attack any enemy ship, the sooner and longer you stay at close range the better your dps will become.

The corvette is a very good ship, however its main problem early game is movement speed and energy. Use your energy wisely.

It is sometimes intelligent to hide and park if in combat with a wraith or even another corvette, there is no harm in letting them come to you; get your energy.

Basics
The miner is arguably the most important small ship of all, especially early on in the game. However, more than three or four miners are usually not needed. Losing even just one miner in the first minutes of the game can partially cripple your economy!
Miners are very fast ships (amongst the fastest, rivaling the Minelayer) and are very small, therefore quite hard to hit. They turn extremely fast and are relatively tough... For a miner.

Abilities
~ Every miner is equipped with a state-of-the-art mining laser. This is a constant laser beam that heats up, slices and extracts unprocessed minerals from asteroids. It doesn't cost any energy to use. The laser can also be used on enemy ships, though it won't extract any resource from it.

~ A miner doesn't have any kind of defensive equipment. As such it is equipped with strong engines that can be overloaded to generate a delayed yet powerful boost. This will jump the miner a long distance away from its original position in less than a second. It is used to escape dangerous situations and, rarely, to quickly move across the map (though this is often considered a waste of energy). The jump, however, costs a vast amount of energy.

~ The mining laser can also be overloaded by drawing a high amount of energy. This triples its mining efficiency for 10 seconds. This ability is very useful and can be used quite often. Note: This also increases the damaging potential of the laser.

~ The miner is equipped with a special set of sensors and probes that, when powered, can reveal an asteroid's contents. These sensors do not cost any energy, and require a little bit of time before they can be used again. However, they require the Scanner Sweep upgrade.

~ A miner can return all of its minerals to the Battle Cruiser every 45 seconds by using the Return Minerals ability. They will travel to the Battle Cruiser in an unammend probe. The minerals can be picked up at the Hangar after the reachy the Battle Cruiser.

Tips and hints
* Several miners "mining" one single enemy ship can do a lot of damage, especially if the laser beam is accelerated.

* The miner has a relatively large amount of health, especially compared to a wraith. A ramming battle can be won by the miner as long as the wraith doesn't cause too much damage from its plasma cannon. A miners job is to mine, avoid combat unless you can kill an enemy who would have otherwise escaped, avoid chasing an enemy. Your job is to provide income, always be thinking about how time efficient you are being

* Your miner will collide with asteroids or ships while turbo jumping (I learned this the hard way).

* When using sensor, the asteroid's colour is visible by anybody within its sight radius, friend or foe.

* Return minerals often, especially if you are in danger. It's better to lose an empty miner rather than a miner full of resources.

* Returning minerals frequently will usually leave one or two free inventory spaces. Use them for Ship Items such as a Small Shield Generator or a Frequency Nullifier. Both improve your chances of survival. ALWAYS ask for permission before buying such equipment, minerals have more important places to be. You should be fine surviving without such items. Miners are important but a good miner never dies, these items are not needed for survival.

* Always request hull upgrades before buying shield generators, they are more cost efficient and apply to all small ships on your team

* Frequency Nullifier is essential late-game (or early-game if you're getting harassed) to prevent harassment and wraith sniping. A wraith can't shoot what he can't see, so nullifiers are a good investment. However the enemy wraith can spot your mineral packages and follow their trajectory back onto your location, do not think you are safe with just a nullifier.

* Always position your miner at a safe place within an asteroid field. The further inside the field you are, the more difficult launching an attack on you will be. If you are experienced enough to follow the mini map traffic, watch enemy pings and position your miner on the far side of any field that incoming enemy ships are near.

* Pay attention to the fields you are mining, the exact same fields are located on the exact opposite of the map. This can help you with late game scouting, or if you want to steal a field from the enemies grasp early game. For example; If a large field is located on the top right of the map, the exact same sized field (not always the same mineral types) is going to be located on the bottom left of the map also.

* If you wish to take mining to its most difficult degree, Watch kerm asteroids as they fly on the mini map, they do not change course unless they hit something. You can use this to predict its next rotation on your side of the map, being there early will allow for more kerm gathered as it passes.

Basics
The Wraith is your offensive small ship. It's small, fast and maneuverable. It is frequently used in hit-and-run attacks against miners. It may accompany other ships (miner escort or other offensive small ships) and it can be used for scouting as well.
It has a high base speed and it turns very quickly. It is relatively inexpensive. Also, if a team runs out of offensive small ships, a Wraith will be automatically produced from the Battlecruiser.

Abilities
~ Its main weapon is a Plasma Cannon. This fires a single, average speed projectile from the front of the Wraith. It has low damage but a high firing rate and low energy cost.

~ The EMP projectile can be fired from any side of the Wraith and is an extremly fast moving bullet. On contact with a small ship, it will temporarily shut down its engines. This is used to stop a miner from fleeing, or running away from a wraith or corvette opponent. It has quite a long range, too, so "sniping" (hitting outside your line of sight) is also possible. It isn't energy-expensive.

~ A wraith comes equipped with a small pinger that can, when used, detect the current location of enemy miners. I'll say it again, only enemy miners. The BC and other small ships will not be detected by the miner ping. This ping can be used relatively often (~20 seconds) and isn't very energy draining, but shouldn't be abused without energy upgrades.

~ Side boosts truly are what makes a Wraith so agile. They provide a fast, slightly delayed boost of speed in the chosen direction (left or right, of course). This is particularily useful when dodging a slow projectile or running away from somebody's sight radius. It is occasionally used to quickly move across the map and catch up on a miner or fleeing opponent. While the side boost can effectively double your maximum speed, it is extremly energy consuming if constantly used, so beware!

Uses and tactics
The wraiths job is first and foremost to harass the enemy's miners and economy. Entry level tactics suggest that the wraith does not engage any ship until his energy is at or above 800 energy (Request a power transfer from the science console twice). At this point you can either head towards an enemy miner of choice, or engage any incoming enemy ships (Could be a wraith or corvette). A wraith is a fragile hunter, make good use of its A and D boosts to dodge incoming fire or any ship attempting to ram you. Do not ram enemy ships with your wraith unless you absolutely need to in order to get the kill. Make good use of your W and S keys to slow down when your full speed is not needed, this will not only keep you from ramming them but it will preserve energy.

Boosts (A and D) are a means of quickly moving from side to side, you can use this to dodge or you can use it to accelerate quickly. If you hold down either key or push it consistently you can reach speeds up to 81 meters per second. This allows you to quickly chase a miner who has boosted, to quickly intercept an enemy attacking your miners, or to retreat from a very bad and unsafe situation. Mind your energy each boost you use saps 15 energy.

Against a corvette a wraith needs to keep a large cushion between the enemy and the wraith. The idea here is to use your boosts, top speed, and ability to maneuver to fire when at long range, fall back when at close range, and keep repeating this process until the enemy ship has fallen. Do not try to EMP or open fire onto a corvette using his Shield ability. Time your EMP's around the cool down of that skill to assist in keeping your range from the corvette far away.
