Improved Mining Laser is a key upgrade to a successful economy. It allows miners to gather minerals from asteroids faster. More minerals in a shorter time lets you gain the advantage on your enemy through faster upgrading and ship buying. Miners are used throughout the entire game, making them better faster is always a strong strategy.
