Fusion Core is the only way to increase your battlecruiser's energy production without altering core output or power docking. For every level invested in it, your ship's energy production increases by 10GW. Furthermore, fusion core upgrades are taken into account when increasing core output from the power console since this is an increase to the battlecruiser's actual energy production.
Currently, fusion core is also said to increase core recovery rate. However, after measuring the rate at which core stability rises at 100% and 95% post and prior to the upgrade, there appears to be no difference between the respective 0.01% recovery per 3 seconds and per 1 second. As such, it is assumed it is not functional at the moment.
