Iron curtain is a highly necessary method of hull tanking. While it does not make the Battlecruiser invulnerable, it comes quite close by reducing all damage taken by 90% -- and furthermore, the damage taken becomes energy. This ability comes into greatest use when fleeing from the enemy, since most energy will be placed into engines rather than shields. This allows you to shrug off attacks while recuperating energy while the opponent not only expend energy in engines, but also in weapons. However, the cooldown of Iron Curtain is an entire minute, meaning that a smart enemy will simply cease fire while the ability is active and resume fire during the 54 seconds downtime. As such, shield tanking is still primarily used since upgrades like Hardened Shields are far superior at soaking up damage.
