Improved hull is an exceedingly good method of quickly utilizing excess resources. It remains a 5 second upgrade no matter how many times it is researched, and having a large hull capacity means that in an equal fight in terms of energy consumption and damage output, the Battlecruiser with more health will win. It is also easy to access since the Upgrades Console is quite close to many other stations. Overall, however, improved hull is one of the less desirable upgrades to begin with since it contributes little; hull tanking is not particularly effective, and most Battlecruiser fights come down to a contest of energy. This is why it is easier to view improved hull as a fast mineral dump, as the alternative of upgrades, small ships, or missiles are often far more desirable and effective.
