Cruiser command is a cooperative map between two teams. Simply put, each team controls one battlecruiser and the goal is to kill the opponent's battlecruiser.
Having helped out a lot of pub players recently to start, I am pleased to say that the menu with the locations has helped tremendously with getting new players to the miners. However, once they launch the miners, there is still plenty of ramming asteroids and flying in circles and whatnot.
These are some pressure points I regularly encounter.
Miners not knowing their abilities are on the command card. "How do I do X?"
Miners ramming everything.
Miners trying to chase rocks (after you tell them to mine the flying rocks because they contain valuable green).
Miners docking to deliver money.
Miners having no idea how to repair.
Do others experience these same things as well? And if there's anything I missed please mention it. I think it would be very helpful to have a short text blurb appear for people the very first time they use a miner (bank setting!) that both tells them "Be sure not to ram your friend's ships! Cut your engines to stop. (Hotkey '%hotkey%')" and actually highlights the ability on the command card for a few moments. The blurb could follow a script, so that the first thing it does is tell miners to stop, then once they stop it tells them to move close to asteroids, then stop again, then mine asteroids, then return them, then if their health gets low to return to the BC. Something like that.
"Why are we still moving towards it?" "We're caught in a tractor beam! It's pulling us in!"
Wonderful post. Only other problem with newbies is that one guy who, without fail, takes the corvette for a spin. Getting him home is often a problem...but that's a personal choice.
I deal with this issue, and those aforementioned, by being firm, consistent, and rewarding. Always tell the newbies they've done well once they've completed a task - even that first time the cut engines. Newbies like that ;p
excellent idea marine, the instruction will require more than a tiny notice to replace have fun on the loading screen :p maybe we could even get rid of the patch notes on the loading screen and post www.cruisercommand.com for patch notes and updates instead, this would allow space needed for a quick basic tutorial while waiting for the load, on top of this id support seeing little trigger tips for newbies

I like this idea a lot too, a tutorial there is more helpful than patch notes. You can't even fit all the patch notes in there anyway.
"Why are we still moving towards it?" "We're caught in a tractor beam! It's pulling us in!"
If I wanna see the patch notes I look on the patch notes section of the map info, that is what it's for. I agree, ditch the notes on loading screen. Much more important is a blurb saying what the game is about, i.e. the IMPORTANCE of mining asteroids to upgrade your battle cruiser. example:
Far out in the Omega cluster two rival battle cruisers investigate some large valuable asteroids. However, they where caught in a flash ion storm which severely damaged both battle cruisers and caused the asteroids to collide breaking them into small fragments.
Now both crews race against each other to mine the asteroids, refine the precious metal within, and repair their ships. Only the fastest and most coordinated crew will destroy the opposition before they are destroyed themselves.
TIPS:
* Mine resources quickly to get the advantage against the other team
* Work together and communicate to survive
* Use small fighters and the battle cruiser to protect your teams miners
Since this game has got to the front page it has had an influx of new, impulse players, who just click the game because it sounds cool (Hey I want to command a cruiser!) and have no idea what it is about once it starts. What!? you want me to mine? this game is about cruisers! I don't want to fly a miner! It would be an improvement if the MAP explained this, instead of having to use the 1st minute or so of the game trying to convince the new players of what need to happen to win.

Me too.
Anything in the map to make this easier would be mega appreciated.
I agree very very much. But you guys need to know that isnt a matter of portrayal of information thats gonna fix this. the only players you have problems teaching are the unintelligent which have a confusing habit of trying strategy games, the two just dont blend. This information will save us time teaching those who are bright enough to understand what they have read, but there will still be the idiots causing problems on deck and so on. Not trying to be rude that's just the honest truth.
