Core enhance

Post by IvanX »

Okay, have any of you ever risen core to 200%? have you risen it over 150%? i guess not, because 150 is already sick, you lose 0.6 stability per tick, so u die in around 1.5 minutes with those settings, (cause you lose those 0.6 every half a second) and rising core to 200 would basically be a one way road, cause at 200 u lose 2.5% per tick, 5% per sec, 20 sec to die.

So the idea is, what about making 150% cape for decreasing, so that when you move core even further it doesn't get any worse?

It still takes time to get core from 150% stability to 200% thus, a good power management that actually uses core up to 150%, would purse it over to 200% and he has to push it back before the core blows up, but keeping core at 150% is pretty useless, coz if you have power docking which adds 150 gw per sec, the fully upgraded 220 gw on core will only add you 110 gw, in the price of your precious core that is really a waste, increasing your output by just 30%.

that way you will be able to use 200% alot more often, at least additional 220~ gw seems worth loosing 0.59 core per second (may also cap it on 0.5 for a good numbering)

Personally, I think you just don't have enough experience with power management yet. Power management is my favorite job and when I play against good people, I usually push the core very hard. You just have to stop being afraid of a low core stability. Purge core plasma helps with this, but even without a lot of green, I frequently go to around 20% stability, sometimes a lot less.

I do push core a lot, really-really a lot, even when ppl shout I'm crazy and shitty captain. But i never pushed core above 150%, cause it's not worth it, the gain is really low, while the loss is huge. Plus, when you sit in power console - you might not mind having stability of 20%, but it's real pain in the ass for nav and weapons :p

Think of it this way: It can be hard to manage, but the enemy has all the same restrictions.
l personally rarely ever go above 110%, as l rely on backup power draining 500 power/sec out of the reserves, sometimes going insane with about 18k shields, 3600 energy/sec if l remember right. Only in rushes will l go beyond 110% or if l am running low on power in general.
There are 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary, and those who don't.

I wouldn't say you push it "really-really a lot" if you don't even push it beyond 150%. I know 20% is a pain, not only for nav and weapons but for power too since everyone's getting disconnected. However, I usually win the battles anyway or at least get away and get some time to reset(which is a huge win when you got taken by surprise with your shields down).

Is there something about core output i do not know of? Maybe more output makes shields recharge faster, cause otherwise even if ur caught on surprise i don't see the point of gaining 50gw per second more by raping your core within 60 seconds, while you can simply drain it from reserves

Gonna disagree and say that you're insane if you set the core at 200%. You will fry your core for a measly 8,000 energy. And you promptly lose all that energy and then some when you have to shut off the core (unless you can finish the opponent super quick, but if you could do that you probably didn't need to wreck your core). I don't want to call a system where there's options that are never a good idea to use perfect.

That said this feels like a band-aid fix. Why's the cutoff at 150%? And while it makes 200% worth using ... it doesn't make any of the other core settings usable. Whats the point of setting the core at 195%? And is this balanced with core purge? (nope, unless you think having a 175 GW advantage for 5 minutes is balanced) I think the solution needs to be more clever.
