How about 3-4 chomper lengths? That visual there was really helpful. It could have an animation letting the wraith pilots know that this ability is about to be cast as Whyte_Dragon suggested. Cooldown could also be increased to 25 seconds.

I forgot about the HotS part. The animation then could be a slightly modified miner warp animation then.

Regarding mineral field positioning, magnetic pull has a very limited range and some mineral fields can be oddly shaped. This at the very least can increase mining efficiency and allow chomper to get from point A to point B faster.

Wraiths sometimes can be sneaky and if it does come to a chomper and actually stops within that range it is either dead or gives the chomper time to accelerate due to the short distance gained from teleporting.

This ability is tricky to balance. It can be either OP or very useless, depending on the range and cooldown. Alternatively, we could have a longer range (6 chomper lengths) but a really long cooldown of 45 seconds. We can also have the reverse- 2 chomper lengths but a 12 second cooldown that costs energy to cast. Chompers don't really use their energy and this can provide an application for that energy. To balance further, this ability could cost significant energy to cast if kept at 6 chomper lengths and the 25 second cooldown (300 energy maybe?).

I just don't see what it brings to the game. As people have already mentioned, it's fine as it is. I don't see what problem you're trying to solve.
Never ignore coincidence. Unless, of course, you’re busy. In which case, always ignore coincidence.

The problem is that it is very very slow and needs to be either very close to the BC or have an escort or it will die. If it mines out an area near the Battlecruiser, it has to go further, putting itself at risk (and the valuable cargo). Depending on game situation, an escort or a Battlecruiser can't always move to accommodate the chomper. The chomper moves too slow to outrun anything, even with max speed.

A short range blink will solve the problem of the vulnerable slow chomper, increase the level of caution it needs to be approached with, allow it to expand its mining range slightly, increase mining efficiency, and allow for more situations in which it can be used. In most situations, people buy them for power docking and do not use them unless the Battlecruiser spawns on top of a mineral field or boosts into one relatively close by. This upgrade would have to cost minerals to get and energy to cast, in turn solving the problem of the chomper not using any energy.

EDIT: why is my post too spammy for a new user?

You could release a private version of the map and have the CC clans test just how OP/useless the ability is although you would have to host it and invite them.

If you can't afford to protect your chomper, don't use your chomper and use it for powerdock.

that's my opinion anyway.

Again, isn't this entirely the point? The chomper trades off HEAVY mining capabilities in exchange for poor maneuverability and speed. It is a simple, straight forward tradeoff. Seriously, a chomper can mine about 75 minerals every two seconds in a good field. Ignoring the travel time, which will vary depending on BC distance, this is a lot of resources. Instead of looking for a way to make the chomper more powerful, I think you should be finding a way to overcome it's faults through teamwork, not by buffing it so that it loses all its faults.
