Lately my friend has been having a large degree of difficulty balancing games to a suitable degree. I recently came up with a decent solution to the problem by creating a particular excel document. Will it work? How does it work? Well... lets see now.
Basically the document works twofold. In the lower section, it has an area purely for the sake of game recording. I had several thoughts regarding 'how I would do this,' but ended up doing it by recording the individual win rates of various ship positions (Nav, Power, ETC.) and having pull into a cumulative overall win rate. I had other ideas, such as using win rates based upon initial setup I.E. Captain, Wraith, Mining, ETC, but I'll just try this for now.
The upper half serves as a 'lobby balance' based upon these stats. The original intention was for this to be used in Private Lobbies only, I.E. 'higher tier games' such that it becomes a better representation of skill, so while it may not have record of all games it still does take note of the higher level of play - in theory. By merely inputting a player's name into any of the 12 game slots, it brings up a quick summary of their ability in each position and contributes to the team's 'total power' - hence, the balancing concept.
Why did I post it? In part, I wanted to see the community's reaction to it, see if people had interest in its use for the sake of balancing and stat recording. There are some obvious issues, such as manual recording is fairly high maintenance, and the alteration of otherwise legitimate records can easily be done. But, again, this is more of a test and trial. I just wanted to see the input.
