Cruiser Command User Interface
Let's assume hypothetically that I was working on a standalone version of Cruiser Command.
In this case, I would have the opportunity to redesign the user interface (the part with the minimap, portrait and command card) from scratch. I was wondering if people had ideas on how it should look and I would like to start a discussion on the subject.
Feel free to draw pictures with suggestions. Also, we don't just have to remove unnecessary features, we can also add new ones that you think fits on the UI.

Never ignore coincidence. Unless, of course, you’re busy. In which case, always ignore coincidence.
Re: Cruiser Command User Interface
I think the interface wouldnt need the control-groups or unit portaits. Which are unnecessary for obvious reasons.

Re: Cruiser Command User Interface
well we wouldnt want to cut the bottom out to much because i used to attack from below because the center wasnt in the view center but in the windows center, that changed (good thing), idk alot of people kinda like below in rts because many games do it.
Ima throw a few out. Minimap in top right, menu button top left (normal in any game) and bottom half should be command cards and information, (right now BC stats are top right, but they could go bottom left while the information card and command card can stay where they are now)

Oh its not orders I'm giving, but rather... "aggressive suggestions".

Heres my idea for the UI. I'd also like to offer my skills as an artist.

Re: Cruiser Command User Interface

My personal opinion. SS Stats would only appear while on a SS, and a Miner/Chomper's resources would show as part of the Command Card. AKA, inventory always reflects the 'Marine' inventory. Maybe add a secondary inventory popup for the small ship, but since most inventory items for small ships are passive...
Also, something I haven't mentioned but would like to. You know how the GUI allows an enemy coming from below you to spot you sooner than you do them? Perhaps altering it such that the GUI was always at the 'back' of the ship (I.E. camera always facing 'forward') might change things up a bit -- though I think I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on that first.

Re: Cruiser Command User Interface
whytedragon i like your idea, i just would prefere minimap in top left but im guessing that that is just me. You know Siretu...you could always enable a customizable interface option with 3-4 preset interfaces that players could choose while whytedragons be default.

I personally like symmetrical GUI designs in order to avoid 'blind spots' as much as possible. But that's just me.Red-Rocket wrote:whytedragon i like your idea, i just would prefere minimap in top left but im guessing that that is just me. Re: Cruiser Command User Interface
Wohow, I think that would add a whole new dimension to wraith fights and harrass, because you it would be really important to have an eye on your environment and the minimap. It would create blindspots that are huge but avoidable by regular BC-pings and other things.WhyteDragon wrote: Also, something I haven't mentioned but would like to.
