Remove the Kill/Death statistics

Post by Dreadnought »

I think people focus to much on their kill/death ratio to much instead of playing as a team player, like not shielding a chomper with your vessel (this actually happened, i had a player who refused to shield me when i was under fire, when i COULD have made it to the BC but he did not want to ruin is K/D ratio)
Also, if player REALLY wanted to improve their K/D ratio they would sit on weapons all day, since it is impossible to receive a death there yet rake in kills.
Players should be focusing on their Win/Loss stats and being a team player to improve their W/L ratio instead of the K/D. I find it much more important when a player wins more games then their kills v deaths since they are putting forth an effort to make the team win.
(I do not think that being carried is a solid argument for a player having more wins then losses by more skilled players, a team is weighed down by a bad player and it clearly shows in their win/loss ratios consistently)
You merely adopted Cruiser Command. I was born in it, molded by it.

One day a wise man introduced me to this game. "It shall protect your virginity, my lad" he said.

Dont touch me you filthy casual.

Or perhaps make it so that only certain kills count (such as the ones in small ships, since like you said, weapons/broadsides are high reward with little risk)

I understand the problem, but I feel like we gain more by having it than not. But I might be wrong so feel free to comment and discuss it more.

If we keep it as it is, captains can roughly estimate the skill of their team in combat ships and plan ahead to focus more on combat ships.
Also for balancing reasons, people can have a general idea about someone's combat skills and balance appropriately the lobby. (After they played with the person before and remember their stats, of course)

So I'd say we keep it.
You could remove kills from Wep console of course, but that's not really that big of a deal either.

Weaps counts as kills? Ahh, well no wonder my K/D is so bad then; I never use weaps. I thought it was just because as a noob I mined all the time, which gets high D but low K, but still I wondered how everyone else had such good K/D. Now it makes sense.

I think K/D should stay, but only small ship kills should count, and maybe even only player kills, not ai kills.

Changed it so weapon console kills doesn't count in your statistics in the dev version.

What about broadsides/yamato?
(also, what about infiltration k/d?)

Broadsides/yamato doesn't count either. Basically, when a projectile is fired, information about the ship type that fired it is stored in the projectile. If the projectile was fired by the BC, it wont apply to kill statistics.

Infiltrator K/D is not counted since it's specifically triggered on ship kills.
