Reduce Minelayer/Destroyer/Corvette damage upgrades

Post by Dreadnought »

You need to upgrade each ship 5 times, thats 2 to many ~_~

you end up never getting the final upgrades because they are so dam expensive (especially destroyers, because they start off expensive anyways) and it allows for easier tier locking and progression. so at tier 1 you can get the first upgrade, second with the second damage upgrade and so on...

Also 2 corvette damage upgrades at tier 0 is pretty OP o.O
and those final minelayer and destroyer upgrades are incredibly expensive, its very rare to get them unless your completely invested...and even then its almost not worth it

Its better to have 3 upgrades that do 30% damage increase up from 20% (90% down from 100%, ya each ship is a bit to powerful in the end with all the upgrades (if you get to that point...but by then, it hardly matters anyways))

EDIT: just realized that destroyer upgrades are 4 with 25%...should still be 3 with 30% anyways xD
You merely adopted Cruiser Command. I was born in it, molded by it.

One day a wise man introduced me to this game. "It shall protect your virginity, my lad" he said.

Dont touch me you filthy casual.

Somehow I'm not fully convinced about this. You're saying that it's too hard to get the upgrades, but that the upgrades are OP? If the upgrades are so good why should we make them more readily accessible in terms of resources and make them more powerful per purchase?

Shouldn't people be rewarded for being able to quickly push out all of their upgrades into a particular ship type, should they decide to do so? They're spending the resources after all. It was to my understanding that the whole point of this upgrade scheme was to make it a lot more difficult to actually get a fully upgraded battlecruiser/set of small ships -- so doesn't this all mean that everything is actually playing out according to the desired scheme? Moreover, doesn't over investing in small ships ultimately leave your battlecruiser vulnerable in terms of upgrade spending?

Furthermore, if you disable upgrading ships at the 'zeroth' tier then you also take away a lot of the potential spending power before reaching a "100/100 resource split".

Rather, if you feel that the upgrades are too powerful, wouldn't it be smarter to simply increase the initial cost and reduce the scaling slightly rather than buff them?

I agree with whyte - I think the game is well designed if some upgrades are too expensive to get unless you *really* want them.

I don't think the # of upgrades really matters as far as balance goes.. either it's too weak/strong relative to the cost, or it isn't - and I don't see any need to make all the upgrades look similar by having the same # of upgrades
