Boarding Drones
Have any of you ever played FTL? Of course you have! Your smart, charming, well groomed youngsters with sparkle of enthusiasm in your eye and spring in your step all because you took that journey through a small top-down 2d independant game in which you took command of a starship very much like a battlecruiser.
Thus you would be familiar with the ability to lauch a drone in a pod into the enemy ship, a slow moving 100% titanium-steel alloy drone intent on incerating your enemies with no questions asked all at a bargain price.
My point being is, since boarding is in place and all these new guns have come out, why not spice things up with ship to ship battles and add in the ability to buy a battle drone (only one as its not meant to overly upset regular gameplay so much as add a new option for harrasment and combat and increase the boarding dynamic that is already in place) which you could then launch using a drop pod at the enemy ship (this drop pod would be susecptible to damage from weapons before reaching the ship) which would cause minor hull damage on contact.
Well thats the idea... Anyone up for it. And wait, before you say anything else, say 'Yes'.
P.s. Seriously consider this because this is one of those ideas that is so cool.

Re: Boarding Drones
Not that interesting
there is a lot to go through before we think about that XD
Maybe later it'll come around but for now there is a lot to do
Hehe, A.R.E.S. warbot model for boarding drone, but I'd think one should exists for defense too
but... It feels a lil slightly too far from CC based game-play :p

Re: Boarding Drones
Well I understand the distance from conventional gameplay, and, in all regard I dont mean this as part of a standard format for battle. But I think as a tech option (i.e. an option that costs alot or has its own pathway/techtree) it will add a further dynamic to the boarding system which is already implemented.
And anyway, in response to that statement that its too far from the standard gameplay format, I think having boarding at all changed the dynamic of the game to something, that we all should be able to agree, increased the general fun of the game. Having a drone (not an overpowered one mind you) would really augment the current boarding/ship vs. ship dynamic into something far more enjoyable. I get that such an idea would be a far way off but Im sure there are some of you that think this is something that will make future games more strategic, if not simply giving rise to way more tense, and thus engaging, scenarios.

Re: Boarding Drones
Well.. the drones are meant for filling in on some simple tasks, not the complex ones, boarding is more complex, where mining, weapons, refining and loading missiles are more automaton friendly... there are some things AI will never be made to do :p (whether or not Siretu {InSomni} can make ai do that, I have no doubt he can build it to fight the game on its own, but, I doubt Boarding, Navigation, Power or operations of small combat ships will ever be made available to AI, (with the possible exception of making an AI "guard" a specific players ship :p maybe) certain things that require strategy will not have AI availability
Simplistic tasks however AI will be allowed :p

Basically, I plan on adding AI support for all roles to finally create a hivemind AI that can control the different drones so you can play against an AI team.

Re: Boarding Drones
step number 2. Add corvette drones.
(what was number one? Letting AI control weps of course, these are just steps to AI killing us all!)

Oh its not orders I'm giving, but rather... "aggressive suggestions".
Re: Boarding Drones
BUT BUT!!!... Hope wants better perfected use for players before AI take over D: also, i don't see a superior AI for weapons
still need to tell to change weapons
... hehe, I suggest you change so it auto changes weapons lol
And I said, I doubt full ai will come, for various strategy reasons, (if you over make ai, the game loses action, it becomes chess... not... RTS :p)
NEVERMIND! -falls on face, sighing- Siretu will make skynet D:

Re: Boarding Drones
well the game is so complex and such a requirment to have ai to work together will be incredibly difficult to near impossible (good luck siretu....*Smirk*)
And as For weps console it does need to be fixed where you can select 1 or both and ai will understand when to use kinetics over lazers and vice versa (and sometimes it has a problem understanding the enemy BC is an actual enemy but i havent seen it recently so i think that has ben fixed =D

Re: Boarding Drones
The weapon selection will be fixed for v2.3. Basically, checkboxes were acting incredibly stupid so I switched to a dropdown menu instead.

Re: Boarding Drones
Ignoring the original point of the topic and continuing along with the hive mind concept...
God I can't wait until full AI is implemented. 1v1 with 5 AI each will actually become a full, legitimate, skillful match. That excites me. xD
