Small Ship Selection and Command Delay

Post by Zeus »

When I'm out on a small ship (I have only confirmed this for miner and chomper so far) and need to select my ship, for the initial split second the controls don't work. It looks like briefly that the controls are different or grayed out. This is very annoying when you need to quickly select your ship and then execute a command right away.

The game tries to keep your ship selected at all times. The reason for this is that you're not actually selecting your ship but a marine on a pillar. The reason for this is to make movement smooth and to fix some strafing issues and other weird stuff that can lead to unexpectedly high movement speed.

Anyway, this means that it resets your selection back to the marine every 0.5s or something like that. In what situations are you having this problem? When do you unselect something and then immediately need control back?

I notice it most when I'm on a miner trying to hit "E" and select a flying green asteroid. I've also had it happen when I'm trying to select my miner and turbo jump away. I also run into it frequently when I'm using the chomper when I'm switching between the pull and chomp commands.

I have never had this issue :o when in small ships, you can not dis-select a ship, ever!, if you manage to de-select ship, it re-selects automatically :o (fyi you cant actually control the ship itself, just like when on the nav console, your in fact remote control :p)

i've never had this issue either, nor have i heard of it. If you neph players are going to keep posting and complaining about bugs be sure to attach a replay instead of wasting peoples time.

Tempest, be nice. I appreciate all bug reports, even if they dont have a replay.

To clarify from my first post, I know about this and it is kind of intended behavior. It is to allow people to select stuff briefly while in a ship. The way to prevent this from happening is to not select something else, and if you do select something else, don't try to reselect your ship but instead wait for it to do it automatically.

Simple workaround: Ctrl + 1 when you do have the correct unit selected. Then click on whatever else you want, then hit 1 again. This adds the benefit of not taking forever (half a second more, or around that) to aim your mouse to left click on your ship. You could even multitask, selecting your ship again while moving your mouse where you want to right-click.
