Thoughts on Moving Missiles to Nav

Post by Zeus »

I was reading over the thoughts on tractor beam thread, and I thought of something. What about moving missiles to Nav, just like Yamato? A common issue is coordination of missile launches with the gunner. If Yamato is on Nav so that you can line up the shots, then maybe missiles should be too. Also, it is fairly common in pub games that we have to stick an AI on weapons, especially when we are shorthanded, and an AI can't launch missiles. I've been in many games where I had to put an AI on gunner, because we didn't have enough people in the game (whether we started short handed, had droppers, or leavers). In those games I wasn't able to use missiles, since an AI can't launch them.

mmmm nah... although missiles are still not used alot because people dont think its worth the money to buy and it does take some time to load them and they dont want to deal with it

That sounds like even more of a reason on why missiles should be move to Nav though.

I also forgot to mention another reason that maybe missiles should be moved to Nav. The Scorpion missile is designed to kill small ships. This would be effective for the guy on Nav, as chances are you are not going to have someone on weapons and hunting small ships.

Well Weapons is already a pretty easy job. Moving missiles to Nav would make the nav even more important than it is now. Dont forget that you dont play with bots all the time. This is supposed to be a team game. ;)

I definitely agree that this is a team game. But right now the community is fairly small, and when playing during the day it is very hard to get a full game, sometimes impossible. It's just something that would allow missiles to be used when you have a shorthanded game. If the community were bigger or easier to get full games then missiles should stay on weapons for sure and maybe even move Yamato there too. But in the meantime, maybe a temporary move of missiles to Nav might be beneficial while the CC community is small. So that this way in shorthanded games we are able to use them. And then later when the community gets bigger we can move them back to weapons.

well we need to lay the foundaition even when the community is small, people hate it when you inconvenience them by making the game more complicated...complex is more stuff....complicated makes things more strange to work with properly
and it isnt as hard to get a full lobby as it used to be (on the America server, i dont know much about EU server)

Actually, if possible, I think the best solution is to see if it is possible that the AI can launch missiles from weapons console. That would solve everything.

well ya..not to hard to program, if BC is visible or pinged recently and BC is lined up to fire then it would be good, except ai can fire all missiles in half a second so if you miss your screwd, 0.5 second delay between each missile i suppose....

I would not be in a dissagreance with the AI missileing speed, everyone else i seen on weapons fires missiles so slow D= if im on nav and we point, all those missiles go byebye in a couple seconds :p
