Mining a miner causes it to stop mining

Post by DumbMarine »

Using a mining laser on an enemy miner causes it to stop mining.

This becomes super apparent when two miners are mining laser dueling-- only one can shoot at a time.

Yeah... This is kind of a problem. I knew I was implementing that problem/bug when I did it. However, I was desperately trying to find a fix for mining beam stacking(back in the days, you could apply a mining beam several times, therefore dealing much more damage or mining much faster).

I don't want to mess with mining too much because I don't want to accidentally introduce that bug right before I go away for the whole summer(that's basically what happened last summer, and it killed CC).

I'll try to remember to have a look at it when I get home after the summer.
Never ignore coincidence. Unless, of course, you’re busy. In which case, always ignore coincidence.

This is not a bug, it is a feature.

Marine, you are probably the best Miner dueler I know of, do you really want to reduce the finesse of the fight?

While it's actually pretty cool that I can fend off 2v1 miners trying to mine me by switching asteroids repeatedly (and not just in a 'ha ha I'm awesome' cool way, I mean there's the potential of a cool game mechanic buried in there if the mining laser were reworked), my poor finger's gonna snap off when someone has the stamina to duel me for 5 minutes.

OMG, soooooo, that's why DumbMarine was able to casually fend off my attempts to "mine" him during a kerm conflict. I saw he was significantly more damaged than me, and I had Q available, so I decided to hurt him; however, my mining beam was cut off 1 second after targeting him, for what seemed to me to be no apparent reason. I was pissed and was thinking SOMEONE IS CHEATING. Man, knowing these little quirks can easily make the difference between winning and losing. In this case, DumbMarine was able to get away with quite a bit of kerm he shouldn't have been able to, while I was left with practically nothing as I was trying and failing to target him and screaming at the screen WTF WTF WTF. He was prolly giggling in the background as he simultaneously mined the kerm and deflected my attacks.
Now if I can just figure out:
1. How my CCA captain knew exactly where 2 asteroid fields were around our BC (but still at some distance) while no one was there (no cam possible) and we were all scouting to find them.
2. How to load missiles super fast.
3. How people mysteriously bring shields up to 39000.
4. Similarly, how people adjust various power settings as if under the influence of a time distortion field - such as boosting engines up to 500 in mere seconds...HOW?

1. Either mirrored fields and he watched the team's wraith/corv or he watched the minimap when cargo drones revealed a lot of the map.
The asteroid field map generator likes the map edges for some reason.
2. have 1 human doing it instead of AI and load the same bay over and over instead of running idiotically to other bays while it takes 0.2 seconds to empty the bay you just loaded.
3. tanking and shield boost does +50% max shields, so those shields might have actually been at 26000, although this still seems unreasonably much.
4. that's not possible but use 2 keys (not holding both, spam 'em!) and your mouse cursor if you wanna adjust 3 settings at a time.

Thanks for those explanations Degra.
I have a few more comments.
1. I had thought of both of those reasons you gave, especially since learning about mirrored fields last week, however, this was THE VERY BEGINNING of the game, and the fields were towards the middle of the map (and not near the edge). I find it unlikely the enemy corv/wraith would be heading in that direction, rather than wrapping to get to us fast. Similarly, I find it unlikely that enemy miners had found the mineral field(s) and mined enough to send anything back. It was about 1 minute into the game when this happened. Very suspicious.
2. I thought loading a missile into an already occupied bay actually LOSES the missile. Perhaps I need to test this alone. Also, what I was really referring to is an overheard method of missile loading that loads the missiles without even being near the bay. Now THAT's fast. Hmmmm.
3. Getting shields even up to 26000 is STILL unreasonably high. There are tricks afoot here.
4. I've seen a BC do it. No boost, and completely still to very very fast in a few blinks of an eye. I was recently told about the multi key technique, and that's a boon, but doesn't explain this totally in my mind.

Load it after it's been fired. You can't queue up 30 missiles in a bay.

That's 1300 GW shields. It's POSSIBLE to get them that high but it's not really a good idea. Do you have the replay of this? While it might seem to be a huge amount, it only takes a minute to raise shields that high. This could have been someone not paying attention on power. Was it faster than a minute?

The other possibility is the BC had the throttle set lower, and raised the throttle at the right time to make it -seem- like a ton of engine power just happened.
