Ship respawn optional

Post by bbot »

In the beta, what if there was a vote as to if ships respawn after being killed? So, auto respawn is the easy mode, and permadeath is the 'pro' mode?

Voting is a bit annoying to implement and it could also cause players to leave because they dislike the settings.

Also, right now it might work okay, but after a while the game will start becoming more and more balanced for one setting (probably ship respawning) and the other option will work weirdly, balance-wise.

If there was a voting method, it would have to be different lobby modes in this case since the changes are so big, like 1 mode without ships dying (ugh) and a lobby mode with ships dying (yay)

Still, having seperate lobbies is no good for Cruiser Command because the community is so small, and i dont think it would particularly work for Cruiser Command.
Oh its not orders I'm giving, but rather... "aggressive suggestions".

I really don't understand why people are hating on the beta. the space fights are much better in beta and games aren't always one sided.
There might be some more balancing required but it's much better.

People are hating on the beta? :O Last time I heard, people said they were enjoying it a lot more than the normal one.

The only one I specifically remember complaining was slapshot complaining about power/shields, which is something I disagree on. Practically everytime I've run power on beta, it's turned out to be a very even battle with backs and forths and it's been very exciting.

I know I am. but every fucking games are made with normal CC. I'd say 90% of games played are in normal instead of beta

There are a lot of mixed opinions about the beta. I think part of it is just people not adjusting to the change in the meta and another chunk just being 'the current imbalances.'

I still thin it's a step in the right direction. Small ships other than the destroyer have an incredibly larger degree of relevance now, especially for a game that revolves so deeply around small ships to begin with.

Ok, here is what i have heard from other players and a little bit on my thoughts on the beta

There are a lot of really good small changes. Such as laser visuals are cool, wraiths are better (should still be 3 starting wraiths) and can be workable late game as well as kill human miners early game. shields are a good rework (however i do not like that they are always online even at 0, i would have preferred bringing them back on with emergency shield generators) Destroyers look and handle better, wraith cloaking is fun... and then there are the huge crazy and controversial Hangar and Upgrade revamps.

While all the other changes are for the most part good (you gave wraith cloaking? are you insane? lol just joking, it works perfectly)

Ok, personally am mostly neutral to the changes so far.
however half the people i meet either hate the changes or like them, so ill try to lay out what people like thats good and what people dont like.

Hanger changes

So everything isnt truly destroyed, its simply rebuilt after a certain amount of time, although in the meantime, you cant use it nor recycle it
(new change: recycling, cool concept, if it werent for the players, there was a guy who recycled all our ships then spent the resources on random stuff at construction, so we couldnt even get a miner out, so im now negative towards recycling lol)

The Good
The changes are more new player friendly.
Beginning of game you dont have to worry to much about losing miners and being behind the rest of the game. Captains have it easier and cringe less when a new player looses their miner to an asteroid. it is easy to have 2 ships, loose 1 and switch to the other ship and fight till dying then switch back to the first one because it has reconstructed and ready for use...and on goes the cycle

The bad
The changes are not good for pro players.
When you destroy a ship, there is no real weight carried, since it doesnt set them back resources or time to get resources to build a new ship, since the ship will be coming back later, it promotes aggressive and suicidal plays instead of making smarter and more conservative choices. Also in a recent change, the timer to reconstruct ships has INCREASED....what?..... not very good, you have miners out for 300 seconds and destroyers out for a wopping 600 seconds. which clutters your hanger with reconstructing ships. Also, even before the longer timers change, when you lost a ship in the beginning, you would sit around doing nothing since all the ships are taken and there are no spare resources for new ships. sure you could be spreading repair kits, but that doesnt really feel like you are contributing to your teammates and something awesome (which is what Cruiser Command is all about!) and its essentially sitting around doing nothing, which is a killer for gameplay.

Ill post something on upgrades later, as i have wrote a lot, and upgrades are a little more of a mystery to me on how it changes things. The Captains i have talked to are Dreadnought (plays on American Servers) Katano (plays on European Servers) Nubarak (also European Servers) and my gaming buddies (they love Cruiser Command, we do our own thing with it, we play hilarious games, hard core games...or whatever mood we are in. They arent great and wouldnt last long against the strong players of North America or a lesser extent Europe, but they are still community, and i trust their opinions and its good to get opinions of all skill levels)

Losing a miner for 300 seconds hurt. it can be hard to recover from.

They don't clutter as you can recycle them. If you are so bent on filling that dead destroyer spot with some chomper or whatever because you don't want a "wasted spot" just recycle it and buy a new ship, you actually come on top over the classic CC

Which has always been a part of CC. even in classic you need to wait for the resources for the new ship...

1) indeed, but it just doesnt 'feel' like it hurts the enemy, and for the matter, the enemy can just buy a new miner, since they are nice and cheap (thats a good thing, im not against cheap miners) and so there is no lossed mining time

*for example, you have 3 players in miners, and 5 miners total, you can continuously lose miners every now and then because player miners are a little hard to kill and they would quickly hop on to another miner, and have that one reconstructed, when another miner dies, that miner that was reconstructing is ready for use again. Likewise a wraith pilot with 2 wraiths, lose 1 wraith, and instantly go with the other and play til death and use the first one again.

Im now starting to not like the hangar changes because you have no real worry of losing a ship. before, it was GONE, and you had to play conservatively and make smart choices, now there is not as great a penalty for losing a ship, or reward for killing a ship.

2) You cannot recycle reconstructing ships, you must wait until they are ready to use again before reconstructing.

3) I think that there are alternative methods to not completely losing out early game like having 1 free miner on first miner loss or cheaper ships (miners are at a good price now, in the normal mode everyone has people go miners because its SO affordable, it would be nice to reduce the wraith to something like 15/15/20, but thats normal mode...so forget i said that for the moment) Later in the game there are more resources readily available and the map and upgrades more developed.
