On small ships, provide keys for rotate right and left

Post by merwinspawn »

Doing so will free me from the mouse (mostly), which in some cases will be very helpful.

You'll also be my new best friend!

erm...why? clicking helps in precision and fighting

I guess this could work and doesnt take alot to be implemented, new players will ask "how do i turn?" erm click..."say what?" there is no reason not to however
Oh its not orders I'm giving, but rather... "aggressive suggestions".

It does surely, but I believe there is still some benefit to having the keys available.

Okay, here's the deal...I'm requesting this mostly to see if small ship control via my gamepad (and joy2key) is possible, and even desirable.
It doesn't work right now because of lack of rotation, but if those keys are added then piloting of small ships can be done by game controller - which might please more than just me.

If it's something that can be done I don't see why not.

The mapping of the keys would be difficult. for rotations you'd want to use q and e, however Q is used for beam acceleration.

They could default to no hotkey, and then you can manually set them use to your gamepad.

Q and E would make sense, but since the object is to not use the mouse, they could be right handed keys like <> (without the SHIFT obviously). And in my case, since I want to use a gampad and joy2key, they could be anything, just as long as they are mapped.

I'm still not sure if this is a good thing. I have some concerns:

* It will confuse new players more. More buttons on the command card is not good unless it fills a need. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if your needs is big enough for me to consider confusing new players.

* It will mess up camera settings in replays. Replays are already messed up due to camera settings. If I change it in more ways, it'll look even weirder and they'll be harder to watch.
Never ignore coincidence. Unless, of course, you’re busy. In which case, always ignore coincidence.
