Changing BC Enhanced Stabilizers

Post by Degra »

Suggestion to change the BC upgrade Enhanced Stabilizers

Current situation:
It increases the BC speed linearly to the gw you put into engines.
That means you double the engine gw, you double the bonus you get.
Your maximum speed is 0 at 0 gw/s.

The suggestion is a flat bonus:
The exact speed is up for debate, but I suggest a flat bonus of 6 m/s per upgrade level
Raising the maximum upgrade levels from 3 to 4

Consequences:
The upgrade loses its linear bonus to BC speed.
With max upgrades, you get a flat bonus of 24 m/s max BC speed, even when you put 0 gw/s into engines.
The Enhanced Stabilizers upgrade will become a counter to Destroyer camping at turtling BC battles(both BCs sit still, the dessie fires through its own BC but is protected by it), in order to make it possible to catch such a destroyer.

It would raise the skill cap of:
  • Nav console: With 24 m/s it will be possible to dodge enemy shots, while still trying to hit all broadside shots
Destroyer pilot: You need to hit the enemy BC as much as possible while trying to save the Dessie by staying in docking range and docking.
Weapons console: You don't click the same spot over and over again for minutes, but both BCs will be moving at BC battles.
Strategy wise:
  • The BC would be constantly moving at least from the midgame on, trying to secure asteroid fields, making the chomper more worthwhile.
Contest of large asteroid fields will get fiercer.
Map control and scouting will get more important, as you won't be able to tell as easily where the enemy BC is.
BC involvement in small ship battles
You won't be fighting one big BC battles but multiple skirmishes, you can either try to save your small ships, secure an asteroid field, or actually try to finish them off.
I'm not exactly sure whether the change will have such a big impact to gameplay, but at least those are the hopes I have for it.

or just get rid of power to engines completely and go with this with BCs starting speed at like 20 m/s + '4 upgrades 4x6= 24' 20+24 = 44 which is sort of slow nowadays but hey, you still got boost. which seems more BC like...to me
Oh its not orders I'm giving, but rather... "aggressive suggestions".

DO NOT GET RID OF ENGINE POWER !!!!

it makes a lot of difference in some fights.

I like the idea of Stabilizers giving a 'base' movement speed to a battlecruiser at no cost. Promotes more frequent map mobility for the battlecruiser, though I can only guess at how people will utilize it.

Removing engine power outright... bad call IMO, as 'outspeeding' and 'juking,' usually both combined, are the only real escape methods at this time.

After having played many CC games since the new stabilisers, I propose the following changes:

Decreasing the free gain from 6 m/s to 4 m/s
Increasing the upgrade levels from 4 to 5.
Increasing the costs of stabilisers from 0/10/25/10 to 0/20/30/15.

Reasons:
  • The enhanced stabilisers and the engine boost are basically doing the same, except that the stabilisers are energy-free and move the BC at a steady pace.
As such, they're worse than boost for quickly getting out of weapon range when getting rushed for example, but have numerous other very useful uses, such as supporting a Chomper, or a defensive nomad strategy.
The total cost would amount to 0/100/150/75 as opposed to the boost's 200/50/200/0, making it the same cost in kermiculite as Destroyers.
6 m/s per level felt a little too high, as the current thing about BC upgrades is that each upgrade level by itself is only a small improvement, but the levels quickly add up. That isn't the case with 6 m/s though.
